Attractions in Dresden's old city

Frauenkirche
The world-famous 102-metre high church with its free-standing sandstone dome is considered the most important protestant Baroque building in Germany. Its reconstruction was completed in 2005.

Zwinger (Bailey)
The world famous former festival site impresses its visitors with the complete harmony of the late Baroque.

Semperoper

Residenzschloss (Dresden Castle)
Once the seat of the Saxon regents, it played a major role in Dresden's cultural development and is today one of the city's most important constructions.

Schinkelwache
The former watch house in Sophienstrasse (between the Dresden Zwinger, castle and Semperoper) is today a ticket office, e.g. for the Dresden Semperoper.

Italienisches Doerfchen
When the Hofkirche was built in the middle of the 18th century, the Italian stonemasons' builders' huts were located on this spot. It is therefore popularly referred to in Dresden as the "Italienisches Doerfchen" (Italian Village). It was given its current form by Hans Erlwein at the beginning of the 20th century. It is located between Theaterplatz and the Elbe.

Procession of Princes
The impressive 101-metre long mural depicts the Saxon regents in a larger-than-life horseback procession.


Attractions in Dresden-Neustadt (new city)

Goldener Reiter (Golden Rider)
A golden equestrian statue of Augustus the Strong, which portrays him as a Roman emperor, is located on Hauptstrasse at Neustaedter Markt.

Baroque quarter
This district is home to carefully renovated Baroque town houses in central Neustadt.

Innere Neustadt (central new city)
Colourful façades, the Kunsthofpassagen and unusual shops attract many artists and give this newly gentrified district its special charm. Visit the "most beautiful milk shop in the world" at Pfunds Molkerei (Pfund's Dairy) and marvel at the Kunsthofpassagen.

Pillnitz Castle
A picturesque castle complex built in an East Asian style, with a well-kept park and many exotic plants.

Landesbuehnen Sachsen (Saxony State Theatre)
The Landesbuehnen Sachsen offers an appealing programme at Stammhaus Radebeul, at the Felsenbuehne Rathen and numerous guest venues (e.g. Meissen, Grossenhain, and as far as Bad Elster). Karl May Museum
The garden city of Radebeul is crazy about Karl May. If you love thrilling stories from the Wild West, you can visit the house of Saxon author Karl May. Historic information about the conflicts between the settlers and the Indians, original-costumes and weapons from the Indian time of Winnetou and Old Shatterhand can be found at Villa Baerenfett. Wackerbarth Castle
Also referred to locally as "Wackerbarths Ruh" (Wackersbarth's Peace). The Baroque castle surrounded by vineyards is in the Nierderloessnitz district of Radebeul.

GDR Museum "Time travel"
The socialist-style building in Wasapark Radebeul houses the largest permanent exhibition on life in the GDR.

On the Loessnitzdackel (Loessnitz Dachshund)
The Sohlental valley of the Loessnitzbach is lined with quarries and rocks. You can take a trip through the impressive landscape with the famous Loessnitzbahn train, referred to as the Loessnitzdackel (Loessnitz Dachshund).

City centre Altkoetzschenbroda
Radebeul's most attractive historic village green, situated between Weinstrasse (Wine Route) and Elbradweg (Elbe Cycle Route). The most popular area of the town for a stroll is characterised by original pubs, studios, antique shops and historic houses.

Saechsische Weinstrasse (Saxon Wine Route)
The beautiful 60 km-long Wine Route runs through the only wine-growing area in Saxony. Riesling, Rivaner, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc are the main wine varieties grown here.

Spitzhaus
The listed building acting as a landmark of Radebeul is the former Lusthaus. Today it serves as an excursion destination with a breathtaking view over the Elbe Valley.

Moritzburg with Moritzburg Castle and game enclosure
The 18th century hunting lodge was built by August the Strong and is situated some 13 km outside Dresden. The game enclosure and high-rope garden is an attraction for young and old.

Meissen with its porcelain manufacturing and Albrechtsburg castle
Meissen porcelain is renowned throughout the world, Meissen cathedral and Albrechtsburg dominate the silhouette of the beautiful town.

Saechsische Schweiz (Saxon Switzerland) with Koenigstein Fort
The Saechsische Schweiz national park is an Eldorado for hikers, climbers and nature fans. Koenigstein Fort is situated in the middle of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and is one of the largest in Europe.

Lusatia Eurospeedway
The motor sport complex hosts fast-paced motor raced, safe driving training a numerous sports events.
